Victory for California Native Lands

More than 17,000 acres of Native lands surrounding the Klamath River have been returned to the Yurok Tribe of California, completing the reclamation of 47,097 acres of tribal land.

The land has been renamed Blue Creek Salmon Sanctuary and Yurok Tribal Community Forest. The tribe plans to restore the lands through indigenous stewardship.

This land does not only hold spiritual significance to the tribe, but Blue Creek is also an important stream to the lower Klamath River ecosystem.

This deal is being called the largest land return in California history.

We congratulate the Yurok Tribe on this reclamation!
